Heal through your meal

Virtual Cooking Classes

We live in such an instantaneous culture where the art of cooking is no longer part of our daily lives. When we cook our own food, we can strengthen our connection to intuitive eating, we can infuse love and care into our food, and we can control what types of ingredients we use. Cooking can be such a therapeutic process and I promise to leave you feeling more confident and supported in the kitchen.

I will teach you easy, simple, delicious, and always healthy recipes for your mind, body, and spirit. I will explain to you the health benefits of the ingredients we use and how to let seasonal and organic ingredients speak for themselves. I offer vegan, vegetarian, paleo, fish, and meat options and will curate the menu to help whatever health goal you are seeking (weight loss, brain health, mood support, hormone support, etc.).

Together we will decide recipes we will make together. I will (virtually) walk you through our menu step by step, demonstrating techniques. I will teach and refine your knife skills, provide tips and tricks about cooking and nutrition, and strengthen your confidence in the kitchen.

I will provide the ingredient list for class at least 4 days before our session.

I have found the power of yoga and meditation to be extremely effective in tempering stresses and anxieties as well as maintaining general wellbeing.

Yoga has an incredible way of energizing our bodies while also calming our minds. It helps us connect with the internal signals in our body and is an incredible tool for self-reflection and self-growth. I earned my yoga teacher certification from Yoga Works in 2014 and have been teaching private clients, group classes, and corporate companies for many years.

I am passionate about yoga and the power of meditation and I want to teach others about the impact of this ancient practice. Whether you are new to this practice or a seasoned veteran, I am here to help you learn and grow through the power of breath and movement.

Whatever you are looking for, whether it is weight loss or self growth, yoga can help you achieve both! This practice is incredibly powerful in processing and releasing trauma, tension, and emotions in the body. Plus it helps to sculpt your body in beautiful ways to create long, lean, and strong muscles! I offer private classes, semi-private classes, and group classes. I am trained in Vinyasa flow and restorative.

Additionally, I offer guided meditation classes.

NutritionAL Counseling

IMG_9419.jpg

There is no doubt that nutrition affects mental your health. Poor nutrition leads to and exacerbates mental illness. Optimal nutrition prevents and treats mental illness. Where there is mental illness, there is nutrient deficiency and poor diet. Where there is mental illness, there is a long history of digestive illness. The mind and body are connected and I am passionate about treating our mental health holistically through looking at what and how we eat.

I attended the Natural Gourmet Institute in New York City to study food therapy and understand how to turn my kitchen into a pharmacy. I began to really explore the collusion of the food industry, big pharma companies, physical illness, and mental illness. The system in our country is at times designed to keep us sick because unfortunately sick people are profitable - healthy people are not.

I started doing my own research and learned the importance of gut health in relation to mental health. I began to understand the importance of eating healing foods for a healthy gut because the majority of serotonin and dopamine (important brain chemicals) are made in the gut - some even calling the gut the second brain! This seemed to go hand in hand with my studies in psychology.

As a graduate of The Natural Gourmet Institute, I teach my clients the importance of nourishing our bodies in ways to enhance our health, heal our gut, feed our minds, and become a more responsible consumer.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (#94527), my therapeutic style is active and engaging with an emphasis on fostering insight and self-awareness.  I work experientially and relationally to assist my clients in reconnecting with their bodies and listening to their internal signals. I use a combination of mindfulness based practices, somatic interventions, gestalt therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and relational therapy.

PHILOSOPHY AND APPROACH

My primary training has been in Psychodynamic therapy, which is insight-oriented therapy, and Gestalt therapy, which is a client-centered approach. With psychodynamic therapy, we look to your past to gather information about your present state and current relationships. By understanding our past we help to find patterns and strengthen our insight. With Gestalt therapy, clients focus on the present and understand what is really happening in their lives right now, rather than what they may perceive to be happening based on past experiences. Through the gestalt process, clients learn to become more aware of how their own negative thought patterns and behaviors are blocking true self-awareness and making them unhappy.

I work with my clients to build self-awareness and also use mindfulness based practices, somatic interventions, and narrative therapy. I work with individuals on issues related to anxiety, depression, trauma, and relational struggles. I work with my clients in helping them reconnect with their mind and body through listening to their internal signals. As a certified yoga instructor, I also use basic yoga postures, breath work, and guided meditations to help my clients increase their bodily awareness, process trauma in the body, and focus on the here and now.

I work to help people process their range of emotions, understand rather than fear their feelings, and pragmatically build healthier coping strategies.
